Spanish verbs that end in ER (2nd category of Spanish verbs)
As we have mentioned in Lesson 8 (1st classification of Spanish verbs: verbs that end with AR) Spanish verbs are classified in 3 groups:
Spanish verbs that end in AR
Spanish verbs that end in ER
Spanish verbs that end in IR
The first group may be the biggest of the three, while the third one may be the smallest.
In this class I will talk about the second group: Spanish verbs that end in ER. And I will show you how to conjugate the following Spanish verbs in the Simple Present.
LEER - to read
COMER - to eat
BEBER - to drink
Verbo LEER en PRESENTE SIMPLE (Simple Present)
Yo leo - I read
Tú lees - you read (informal)
Usted lee - you read (formal)
Él/ella lee - he/she reads
Nosotros leemos - we read
Vosotros leéis - you read (plural - this is the form used in Spain)
Ustedes leen - you read (plural - this is the form used in Latin-America)
Ellos leen - They read
Verbo COMER en PRESENTE SIMPLE (Simple Present)
Yo como
Tú comes
Usted come
Él/ella come
Nosotros comemos
Vosotros coméis
Ustedes comen
Ellos comen
Verbo BEBER en PRESENTE SIMPLE (Simple Present)
Yo bebo
Tú bebes
Usted bebe
Él/ella bebe
Nosotros bebemos
Vosotros bebéis
Ustedes beben
Ellos beben
As you can see, the root of the root of the verbs are unbold, and the endings are all in bold letters.
Look how the pattern is the same regardless of the verb. The root verb that we are conjugating (without the ER ending) plus the ending, which is the same for every verb (depending on who the subject is). So, you need to learn the correct endings and you will be able to conjugate all the regular verbs.
Fortunately most Spanish verbs are regular :-D
